An endorsement changes a Bound or Issued policy without replacing its history. Common requests include adding a location, changing a limit, or correcting a named insured.

Review the request

The current file page has no direct endorsement form. A request normally arrives by mail or through the Aurora rail. Aurora records the requested effective date, description, and exact application changes, then proposes the endorsement under the charter. The effective date must fall within the policy term. Underflow re-rates the changed term and evaluates the revised premium and exposure against the program’s authority. A hard authority limit refuses the action; a referral holds it for a person regardless of the charter position.

Issue the endorsement

When the endorsement executes, Underflow:
  1. Records the changed terms and effective date.
  2. Books an immutable premium-ledger row when premium, tax, or fees change.
  3. Creates an invoice or return-premium credit for that difference.
  4. Creates the state-filing obligation for a premium-bearing surplus-lines change when the policy has a home state.
  5. Generates an endorsement PDF.
  6. Regenerates the declarations page when the policy is Issued.
  7. Proposes a notice to the file’s counterparty, normally the producer, under the outbound email charter.
Document rendering and the counterparty notice happen after the transaction commits. A rendering failure does not unwind the policy or accounting change.

Policy history

The original bound terms remain visible. Endorsements are numbered in order and describe only what changed. The policy row links each generated endorsement document, while the Accounting section shows the premium effect.
